The Newburgh Free Academy Varsity boys’ baseball team started off their season with a big win over Minisink Valley yesterday afternoon.
The NFA Goldbacks defeated the Minisink Valley Warriors 22-7 in a non-league game played at the Minisink Valley High School on Thursday, March 30, 2023. The game was Newburgh’s opening day of baseball. Minisink Valley entered the game with a 1-0 record after defeating Middletown 3-0 the day before.
Tyler Martin powered Newburgh’s offense, slamming out two home runs and driving in four RBIs for the day. Teammates Joe Ponesse and Chase Rounds added three RBIs apiece.
Newburgh’s Tyler Cross, DJ Paron, and DJ Clifford all chipped in two RBIs apiece.
Goldback Tyler Slaughter was on the mound for the win with six strikeouts over three innings.
Newburgh will compete in an invitational this Sunday. They will then face Cornwall in a non-league game during Newburgh’s home opener on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
