The New Windsor Recreation Department has announced plans to host a series of farmer’s markets from spring through fall.
The Recreation Department first experimented with the idea last year when it held their first-ever farmer’s market on October 15, 2022. At the time, officials said they would consider trying it again if there was a good turnout. The event drew a positive response from the community, so town leaders are bringing it back in force this year.
New Windsor Recreation Director Matthew Veronesi explained, “The farmers market is the idea of our Town Councilwoman Sylvia Santiago, who has been wanting to do this for a while.” He said the fall event was “very successful, so we did decide to do it on a regular basis.”
The farmer’s market is projected to feature up to 20 vendors during each event. Some vendors will be attending all 11 weeks of the farmers market and some will be attending periodically.
The vendors will offer several different types of foods, fruits, vegetables, and wares.
The farmer’s markets will be held at the New Windsor Town Hall Complex, located at 555 Union Avenue, from 10:00am to 2:00pm on several days from May through October. They will be held on Saturday, May 11, June 3, June 17, July 8, July 22, August 5, August 26, September 9, September 23, October 7, and October 21, 2023.
Veronesi wished to thank New Windsor Town Supervisor George Meyers and the entire New Windsor Town Board for all of their support with the farmer’s market as well as all of the Recreation Department’s countless offerings.
“We are looking forward to it,” Veronesi stated.
