Multiple people were injured and one was airlifted in a serious head-on accident in New Windsor yesterday.
The New Windsor Police Department, New Windsor Fire Department, and New Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Corp responded to a reported head-on car accident on River Road at 8:06am on Thursday, March 16, 2023. The accident occurred just south of Newburgh Towing near the gas and oil terminals.
Police were the first to arrive and discovered the driver of one of the vehicles was trapped inside with serious injuries. The New Windsor Fire Department used Jaws equipment to cut the victim out of the vehicle.
A medevac helicopter was called to airlift the patient. The Vail’s Gate Fire Department responded to set up a landing zone for the medevac. The patient was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.
Four additional patients were injured in the accident and were transported by ambulances to St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh.
The New Windsor Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Detectives are asking any witnesses to call them at (845) 565-7000.
