Multiple Fire Departments Battle Brush Fire near Storm King School

Firefighters from multiple department battled a large brush fire in Cornwall-on-Hudson early this afternoon.

The Cornwall-on-Hudson Fire Department was first dispatched to a brush fire near Route 9W and Reservoir Road, near the Storm King School, at approximately 12:30pm on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Orange County 911 reported receiving multiple phone calls reporting the brush fire.

The incident commander arrived on the scene to find an active brush fire that was continuing to spread. An estimated area of 100 feet by 100 feet was on fire.

The Cornwall-on-Hudson Fire Department summons their neighboring Cornwall Fire Department with brush equipment and manpower. They also called the Vail’s Gate Fire Department with a pumper as well as brush equipment, the West Point Fire Department with a pumper, the Salisbury Mills Fire Department with a tanker, and the Washingtonville Fire Department with a pumper tanker.

In just over one hour, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and knock down any hot spots.
