New Windsor School Commits to Kindness

The New Windsor Elementary School, part of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, has spent much of January promoting kindness and well-being.

Led by school psychologist Kelly Caci, school counselor Jason Michalek, and art teacher Jamie DeForest, the school participated in “No Name Calling Week” from January 17 – January 20, 2023, and the “Great Kindness Challenge” (from January 23 – January 27, 2023.

Students and staff engaged in various spirited activities that included creation of multiple hands-on artworks as well as fun filled displays of unity. Caci and Michalek also completed mini-lessons on kindness and respect.

Students and staff displayed spirited clothing themes, including “Team Up Against Bullying” (wear your favorite team shirts), “It’s Crazy to be a Bully” (wear crazy socks), “Hats off to Kindness” (hat day), and “It’s No Sweat to be Kind” (wear sweats / New Windsor School apparel).

Students and staff were involved in the creation of a “Commit to Kindness” bulletin board with signatures from all, mini-Lessons on kindness and respect, creation of “Ocean of Emotion” wall tape-art, and kindness quotes as part of the daily morning announcements.

The District stated that New Windsor School is committed to fostering an unwavering dedication to provide the best possible learning environment.
