The man who made headlines in a shooting at an Asian restaurant in the Town of Wallkill in 2021 has been sentenced to seven years in the slammer.
According to an indictment filed by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Hector Luna, Jr., age 28 of Wallkill, shot a man outside of the You You Asian Restaurant and Bar, located on Route 211 in the Town of Wallkill. The shooting occurred on April 14, 2021, at approximately 9:15pm.
The victim of the shooting had reportedly been dining in the restaurant prior to the shooting. Emergency medical services and the Town of Wallkill Police responded to the shooting. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Luna was taken into custody at the Hampton Inn Hotel in Pike County, Pennsylvania, and waived extradition to face the charges in New York.
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced today that Luna has been sentenced to seven and a half years in the state penitentiary plus five years of parole. Luna pled guilty to Assault in the 1st degree.
“Violent crimes, such as those committed by this defendant, have significant and often life-long impact on crime victims,” said Hoovler. “This disposition spares the victim the additional trauma of reliving this horrific incident in front of a jury. I applaud the joint efforts of the various law enforcement agencies that together brought this defendant to justice. As I have made clear, gun violence is a priority for my Office and will not be tolerated.”
