The New Windsor Town Board started off their meeting on Wednesday evening by presenting a plaque to a local athlete who has made her town proud. See the video below.
Cornwall Central School District athlete Karrie Baloga, a New Windsor resident, received the honor alongside of her family and the Town Board as the crowd looked on and applauded in support.
“Your many achievements during your time at Cornwall High School are well known to many people in our community,” Town Supervisor George Meyers read from the plaque as Baloga was all smiles. “I am acutely aware of how much training time you had to put in to have the success you now enjoy. The University of Colorado will be thrilled to have you as a student athlete. I wish you continued success in all your future endeavors.”
Meyers then shook hands with the young lady and handed her the plaque as she posed for photos with her family and the Town Board. Baloga graciously shook hands with each of the Town Board members and thanked each one individually. Her family members also thanked the Town Board.
Baloga is a member of Cornwall’s Varsity Girls’ Cross Country Team. Just before the holiday break, she won the national championships in San Diego, California (story here).
On January 21, 2023, Baloga will compete for the U20 World Cross Country Championship in Virginia. If she qualifies there, she will compete in Australia for a spot on the USA team in the world championships.
Baloga will attend the University of Colorado on a scholarship beginning this fall.
“We’re all behind you,” Meyers told Baloga.
