Students at Balmville Elementary School in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District recently put on a winter holiday show for their family members. See the video below.
Students in Kristina Collier’s second grade class and Kristine Campbell-Defoe’s third grade teamed up for this multicultural celebration to highlight the differences and similarities centered around Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. The two classes worked closely during a four week, 30 minutes per day, rehearsal process.
The ensemble featured several English Language Learners and many other students who initially struggled with voice projection and confidence. Throughout their preparation for the show, the second and third grade students had fun while enhancing their communication skills, voice projection, and unleashing their creativity.
The show was filled with songs and perfectly timed comedic moments. Collier expressed that she was proud of all the students who participated despite many being apprehensive initially. She mentioned seeing how proud the students were of themselves following the Winter Holiday Show and added, “Ultimately that’s the pay off– watching the students work together to exceed their own expectations”.
