New York Mets Respond to Passing of Jett Diaz

The New York Mets have issued a statement following the untimely passing of New Windsor resident Jett Diaz at the young age of 14.

“We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of our teammate, Jett ‘Macho’ Diaz,” the Mets wrote in a press release. “We send our condolences to his family and friends. Jett’s memory will forever be in our hearts.”

Diaz was a local baseball star who was signed by the Mets during a publicized press conference earlier this year. After the signing, Diaz participated in some fielding practice on Citi Field with professional athletes from the Mets. He then threw out the first pitch. The event was coordinated through the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Diaz’s funeral was held yesterday, just three days before Christmas.

The story about Diaz’s life, along with video of him signing with the Mets, can be found here.
