Meals on Wheels Honored for 50 Years Serving Newburgh, New Windsor

Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh celebrates its 50th anniversary at the Powelton Club in the Town of Newburgh on Saturday.

The celebration honored volunteers and friends of Meals on Wheels who work compassionately to deliver nutritious meals to individuals in need.

Founded by Frederica Warner in 1972, Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh is a charity organization. Members of Meals on Wheels America prepare and deliver hot, nourishing,
noontime meals for individuals who are confined to their homes and unable to cook adequately for themselves due to age, illness, injury, or disability.

Dedicated and caring volunteers deliver freshly-prepared meals to those in need and brighten their day with a friendly visit. Also, frozen meals are available to individuals upon request for evenings, weekends, and holidays.

During the Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh 50th Anniversary Celebration, Town of
Newburgh Deputy Supervisor Scott Manley presented a congratulatory certificate on behalf of the Town of Newburgh Supervisor Gil Piaquadio and the Town of Newburgh Town Board.

Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh has delivered over 500,000 meals in the past 50 years. Any home-bound resident in Newburgh or New Windsor can apply to receive meals. There are no income or age restrictions.

For more information or to apply to receive meals, contact Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh on weekday mornings at (845) 562-3490.

“Thank you Meals on Wheels of Greater Newburgh for delivering delicious meals to individuals in need for half of a century and empowering the infirm to live where they want to be – at home – with independence and dignity,” Manley stated.
