City of Newburgh Firefighters Save Multiple Dwellings

Several residents on City Terrace have the City of Newburgh Fire Department to be thankful for this Thanksgiving holiday.

Hard-working city firefighters were responsible for saving a two-story building, which is located just a few feet next door to another two-story building. Together, the buildings are the homes of multiple families.

At 12:18pm yesterday – Tuesday, November 22, 2022, the City of Newburgh Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building on fire at 85 City Terrace, located just south of Downing Park.

The City of Newburgh Fire Department’s truck company works on the roof at 85 City Terrace.

According to the International Association of Firefighters Local 589, the union representing the City of Newburgh firefighters, their department responded with one ladder truck and one pumper. Crews arrived on the scene to find smoke billowing out of the roof of the building.

Union officials reported that the two crews had difficulty finding the source of the fire due to a “lack of initial manpower” as well as the secreted location of the fire.

Crews discovered that the fire was burning in the cock loft of the building. Firefighters then quickly knocked down the blaze before it spread any further.

According to property records, the home is 2,522 square feet and contains six bedrooms.
