The Town of Newburgh Police Department has revealed the identity of the man arrested and charged with a bank robbery that occurred on Friday.
Basil Martusevich, age 56 of the Town of Newburgh, has been arrested and charged with Attempted Robbery in the 1st degree. Public records show Martusevich residing on Gardnertown Road in the Town of Newburgh, although he has a long listing of residencies across rural portions of Sullivan County. Public records do not show any serious crimes involving Martusevich in the past.
According to police, Martusevich entered the Bank of America on Route 300 in the Town of Newburgh at approximately 5:00pm on Friday, November 4, 2022 and threatened a gun before fleeing the scene. He was wearing a baseball cap and a surgical mask.
Through interviews, gathering information, and surveillance photos provided by the bank, the Town of Newburgh Police were able to identify a possible suspect. At approximately 10:45pm that same night, police arrested Martusvich.
Along with the Town of Newburgh Police Department, the New York State Police K9 Unit and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center assisted.
Martusevich was remanded to Orange County Jail.
