Man Fleeing Police in Greene County Falls off Cliff, Dies

A man who led police on a foot pursuit fell off a cliff and died, the New York State Police reported. The subject had multiple felony bench warrants.

A state trooper attempted to pull over a Ford F150 which allegedly committed a traffic infraction in Greene County at approximately 11:31 pm on Monday. As the trooper approached the vehicle, the driver reportedly climbed over the passenger seat and fled on foot. He ran into a wooded area off the roadway.

The trooper entered the woods in an attempt to locate the driver. He was found laying at the bottom of a steep rock embankment. The trooper made his way down the embankment and rendered first aid until additional emergency personnel arrived.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville EMS, and Greene County Paramedics arrived on the scene and assisted with first aid. The driver was removed from the woods and airlifted to Albany Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased from his injuries.

Police identified the man as Christopher Stanton, age 40 from the Village of Tannersville in Greene County.

The New York State Police and the Attorney General’s Office are investigating the incident.
