New Paltz Driver without License Arrested for DWI Twice in Two Hours

A New Paltz man was arrested by the New York State Police twice within two hours for allegedly driving drunk.

At approximately 2:25 am on Sunday, troopers reportedly observed a 2013 Audi S4 traveling on Southside Avenue in the Town of New Paltz while committing several traffic violations. Troopers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Edwin Mendez, age 29 from New Paltz.

Troopers interviewed Mendez and determined he had no driver’s license. They also determined he was impaired by alcohol and placed him under arrest. Mendez allegedly refused to take a chemical test. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator in the 1st degree, both felonies. He was released on an appearance ticket scheduled to appear in the New Paltz Court on August 17, 2022.

Less than two hours later, at approximately 4:15 am, State Police were patrolling Route 299 and reportedly observed the same vehicle in violation of several vehicle laws once again. Troopers stopped the vehicle and recognized Mendez from the earlier arrest.

Troopers once again alleged Mendez to be intoxicated. He was placed under arrest again and charged with another set of the same crimes. He was issued another appearance ticket to appear in the New Paltz Court on August 17, 2022.
