April 30, 1937 – July 31, 2022 (age 85)
Robert “Bob” Simmons, age 85, passed away on July 31, 2022 at The Pines Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, NY with his family by his side. Bob was born on April 30, 1937, and spent his life in Cornwall and Newburgh, NY.
At an early age, Bob started working with his father in the family construction business. After graduating from Orange County Community College, he served his nation proudly in the US Navy as a Frogman on the elite Underwater Demolition Team 21. Bob was one of the very few who made it through the program. He was a welder and a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 269 & retired from Local 373.
Bob was passionate in his beliefs and a proud American. He truly enjoyed discussing politics. He was an excellent craftsman and remained active with his many projects that he completed to perfection. He was a selfless man and took care of many friends and family throughout his life. He was always available to talk to and share his wisdom. He was a great mentor and will truly be missed by all who love him.
Bob is predeceased by wife, Grace Simmons, son, Joseph Simmons, mother and father, Evelyn and Joseph Simmons, sister and brother in law, Joan and Mike Coppola.
He is survived by his sons, Robert Simmons Jr, Freemont, CA, and William Simmons and his wife, Christine Nastasi, Hyde Park, NY, step-grandson, Daniel Nastasi of Wappingers Falls, NY, brother and sister in law, Richard and Gretchen Simmons, Nescopeck, PA, several nieces and close friends.
Visitation will be held at Brooks Funeral Home on Sunday, August 7 from 2-4 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial is to be held at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh on Monday, August 8 at 10 AM, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.
