City of Newburgh PD Welcomes Three Academy Graduates

The City of Newburgh Police Department is welcoming three new additions to their team who graduated from the police academy yesterday.

Dominick Fayo, Angela Helt, and Jose Ruiz will now begin training on patrolling the city as probationary police officers. Fayo graduated as the class president of his academy session. Helt earned the EMS Award.

The three were among numerous recruits who graduated from the Police Chief’s Association of Orange County Police Academy yesterday. The ceremony was held at the Paramount Theatre in Middletown.

The City of Newburgh Police Department wrote in a public statement, “Please join us in wishing them a long and prosperous career with one request – that they always come home safe.”

Active recruitment is currently underway for anyone wishing to become a City of Newburgh police officer. The filing period is open through August 12, 2022. The civil service exam will be held on September 17, 2022. There is a $50 fee to take the exam.

The starting salary for a City of Newburgh police officer is $45,846 plus benefits. Applicants must be between ages 20 and 35 years old, although there is a reduction for veterans. The positions are open to residents of Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester Counties. Appointment preferences will be given to City of Newburgh residents. Applicants must be United States citizens and cannot have any felony convictions.
