Man Arrested for Driving Drunk on Thruway with Children in Car

The New York State Police announced the arrest of a man who was allegedly driving drunk with two children in the car while traveling on the Thruway in the Town of Newburgh.

At approximately 9:20pm on Sunday, Troopers from the Troop T Barracks in Newburgh stopped a vehicle for traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle, Rafael Henriquez, age 24 of New York City, was reportedly found to be intoxicated. He had a 4 year-old child and a 14 year-old in the vehicle.

According to police, Henriquez’s blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.11%. He was charged with two counts of Driving While Intoxicated with a Child in the Vehicle, Class E felonies; and Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

Henriquez was taken into custody and processed at the State Police barracks. The children were turned over to a responsible party. Henriquez was issued tickets and turned over to a sober third party. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Newburgh Court on August 18, 2022.
