One person passed away in a house fire in Salisbury Mills early this morning. Firefighters from New Windsor to Chester woke up in the middle of the night to help.
Shortly after 3:30am, the Salisbury Mills Fire Department was called to 38 Sylvan Trail in Mountain Lodge Park for a house fire with entrapment. Firefighters arrived to find the house was fully engulfed in flames. The incident commander called for a second alarm.
The Monroe Fire Department was called with a FAST Team, which rescues any other firefighters who may become trapped inside. The Washingtonville and South Blooming Grove Fire Departments also responded to the scene.
During the fire, live electrical wires came down. Orange & Rockland Utilities were called to hurry to the fireground to shut off the power.
Firefighters from the New Windsor, Vail’s Gate, and Chester Fire Departments were called into Salisbury Mills to cover any other assignments or in case additional manpower was needed at the scene.
The one-story house was 640 square feet and contained two bedrooms.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. The name of the victim who perished has not yet been released.
