A small, Cessna aircraft crashed onto State Route 42 in Monticello early yesterday afternoon. The plane then caught fire and significantly burned. Fortunately, the pilot survived.
It appears the pilot made a controlled crash onto the main road near the Monticello Raceway. According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, the pilot was able to exit the plane without injuries.
Multiple police agencies and fire departments responded to the scene. Route 42 was closed in both directions for several hours so officials could extinguish the fire, conduct an investigation, and remove the aircraft.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office stated they are investigating the incident.
