City of Newburgh Announces National Night Out

The City of Newburgh has announced their 2022 National Night Out activities will return again this year.

National Night Out is always held on the first Tuesday of August. The City of Newburgh will celebrate the event from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, August 2. The activities will take place on Broadway from Johnston Street to Liberty Street in the downtown area.

Activities will include free food for the public, live entertainment, and a bouncy house. Numerous resources will also be on-hand from civic organizations, local businesses, and some city agencies.

The National Night Out event started out small across the country in the 1980s and only consisted of neighbors turning on their porch lights and sitting out front of their homes. From there, the annual event slowly grew and gained recognition.

The City of Newburgh was the first municipality in the area to begin celebrating the event nearly two decades ago. At the time, local businesses would open their doors at nighttime while different civic groups would set up outdoor stands throughout the entire City of Newburgh. As the event continued to grow, it is now more streamlined into a larger scale event in one centralized area.

Since the City of Newburgh began continuously recognizing National Night Out, the event grew to the Town of Newburgh within more recent years. This year, the Town of New Windsor has newly joined in and will begin recognizing the event.
