The Newburgh Urban Farm and Food non-profit organization from the City of Newburgh prepared for this summer’s growing season on Wednesday with the help of volunteers from local businesses and organizations.
Volunteers from the Hudson Valley Credit Union, Orange County Department of Health, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region, and Precision Pipeline Solutions all turned out to help Newburgh Urban Farm and Food prepare their vast gardens. Together, all who turned out moved and sorted lumber, installed a pole bean tunnel, and prepared three garden beds for planting.
Newburgh Urban Farm partners between organizations and individuals to grow fresh food available and accessible to all. They are also a central part of the City of Newburgh’s emergency food response.
Every week since 2020, the organization has been donating between 90 and 250 pounds of fresh, local produce to local food pantries and emergency food services. They also continuously donate the bulk of their harvests to feed hungry community members.
