A two-story house in New Windsor is currently on fire and firefighters from multiple companies are hurrying to the scene.
The New Windsor Fire Department was first dispatched to the fire at 136 John Street at approximately 1:08 pm. The house is located on the stretch halfway between Gus’s Tavern and Federal Block. The incident commander first arrived on the scene to find an active house fire and transmitted a second alarm.
At approximately 1:30pm, the incident commander pulled all firefighters out of the building and began a defensive attack.
FAST Teams from the Coldenham and West Point Fire Departments are rushing to the scene. These teams are used to standby outside in the event any firefighters need to be rescued.
The New Windsor Fire Department is also being aided by a pumper from the City of Newburgh, a pumper from Cornwall, and a ladder truck from Vail’s Gate. The Washingtonville Fire Department was also called to the scene but could not assemble a crew.
The New Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Corp has also been called to the scene. It is unknown if there are any injuries.
The Good-Will Fire Department is standing by to cover any other calls in New Windsor.
Property records indicate the house is 950 square feet and contains three bedrooms.
