The union representing the New York State Troopers has endorsed Colin Schmitt for New York’s 18th Congressional District. Schmitt, a Republican, is currently a New York State Assemblyman.
The newly formed congressional district encompasses all of Orange County, and parts of Dutchess and Ulster Counties.
New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association President Thomas Mungeer stated, ““It is with careful consideration and a thorough process that the NYSTPBA announces our endorsement of Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt in his candidacy for NY’s 18th congressional district. Colin is a proven leader with a track record of standing with law enforcement. With the continued disaster of bail reform plaguing our streets, violent crime spiking, and calls to ‘defund the police,’ we need more now than ever, principled leaders like Colin Schmitt to fight for us in Congress. Our members are honored and proud to stand with Colin Schmitt who has always stood for us.”
Schmitt expressed his appreciation by stating, “Our New York State Troopers are renowned across the country and world as law enforcement leaders. To have their support and endorsement in my campaign to win our NY-18 congressional district is humbling and greatly appreciated. Now more than ever we need leaders at all levels of government who have a proven track record of supporting law enforcement and working to keep our communities safe. I am that leader and as the Hudson Valley’s next congressman will always back the blue and put the safety of our Hudson Valley families first.”
The New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association consists of over 7,000 active and retired members from the rank of Trooper to Major.
