A small airplane in distress caused a scare at Orange County Airport this afternoon. A person called 911 to report the aircraft had crashed at the airport, sending first responders scrambling to the scene.
The Montgomery Fire Department first got the call at 1:00pm for an aircraft down and possibly on fire at the Orange County Airport.
As firefighters were responding, Airport Operations reported that the plane had in fact landed safely and no crash occurred. However, smoke was coming from the engine of the plane.
According to radio reports, the plane had a malfunctioning engine which caused the smoke. No injuries were reported.
