New Windsor Residents Meet Don Mattingly

New Windsor residents had a brief opportunity to meet Don Mattingly, a legendary New York Yankees first baseman from the 1980s and 1990s and current manager of the Florida Marlins.

The New Windsor Recreation Department coordinated a trip to Citi Field in New York City last night. Residents were able to watch the Mets take on the Marlins on a warm night with a large crowd.

Before the start of the game, Mattingly took time to pose for pictures with New Windsor residents who participated in the trip. The photo op included a shot of a group of children standing at the entrance to the third place dugout.

Mattingly, who turned 61 years old in April, was known as #23 for the Yankees. His number was retired. He played for the Yankees from 1982 to 1995. He then began coaching for the Yankees, followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has been managing the Marlins since 2016.

The Mets defeated the Marlins 10-4 in last night’s game.
