Members of the Storm King Art Center visited students at the Horizons-on-the-Hudson Elementary School in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District last week.
Students who participate in the school’s Unlimited Horizons program had previously studied a new exhibit opening at the Storm King Art Center by Wangechi Mutu. The students were inspired by Mutu’s art, so they created small, clay sculptures of animal hybrids utilizing different natural materials.
The projects also connected vertically between grade levels at Unlimited Horizons, touching upon different curricular components including animal adaptations, ecosystems, and literature.
