For the first time ever, a duck derby for children will be held during Cornwall’s July 4th activities. The derby will raise money for future Independence Day events.
Children (or their parents) can sponsor rubber ducks which will compete in an epic race across Ring’s Pond. The rubber ducks are said to have fierce determination and will fight their way to the finish line where the sponsors will collect cash prizes for the winning ducks. Prizes are $150 for first place, $75 for second place, and $30 for third place.
How can a rubber duck swim? Firefighters from the Storm King Engine Company will provide a deluge of water from their hoses to create a wake, sending the rubber duckies on their way. Paddlers aboard boats and canoes will also be on hand to shoo wayward birds back on course.
Tickets can be purchased on the Cornwall Independence Day Committee’s webpage by clicking here.
May the best duck win.
