The City of Newburgh Police Department is investigating the shooting of a teenager that occurred yesterday.
At 5:40pm, police received a notification from an electronic ShotSpotter device, which detects gunfire in the area, in the area of 69 South Street. Officers arriving in the area discovered an incident in the parking lot of Varick Homes Condominium Complex.
A preliminary investigation determined that an 18 year-old resident was shot in the groin during the incident and was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital via private vehicle. According to police, the teenager remains hospitalized but is in stable condition.
Police are seeking witnesses who may have been in the area at the time. Anyone with information is asked to call the City of Newburgh Police Department at (845) 569-7509. Callers can remain anonymous.
