Young Motorcyclist Plunges Off Storm King Mountain, Dies

In a horrific scene, a young motorcycle driver who was enjoying a motorcycle ride over Route 218 in Cornwall abruptly lost his life when he crashed his vehicle and fell nearly 300 feet off the mountain.

Just before noontime this morning, Orange County 911 received a call for a motorcycle accident near the main lookout point on Route 218, a narrow stretch of road built along cliffs. The initial call reported that the driver had been ejected over a stone wall.

The Cornwall Police Department responded to the accident scene while the New York State Police checked the train tracks at the bottom of the mountain. The Cornwall Fire Department responded and staged along the railroad tracks at Donahue Park, a riverfront park in Cornwall-on-Hudson. All train traffic was stopped during the incident.

State Troopers located the deceased motorcycle driver at the bottom of the mountain. The Orange County Medical Examiner responded to the scene.

The driver was identified as a 23 year-old New York City man. His name has not yet been revealed. Police are investigating the accident.
