City of Newburgh Begins Sewer Project on Water Street

A contracting company hired by the City of Newburgh has begun construction on the North Water Street Sewer Separation Project.

This project is intended to separate the combined sewers in the area of North Water Street and North Street, continuing through the intersections of Powell Avenue, Central Avenue, Liberty Street, and through Park Place. Once completed, this project will reduce the frequency and duration of combined sewer overflows into the Hudson River.

In addition, the project will construct new curb ramps and repave the roadways throughout the project area.

Contractors will be staging equipment and materials at the intersection of Park Place and Grand Avenue. Extra time may be needed to travel through this area. Detour signs and traffic flaggers will be posted.

The project is funded through a partial grant and low interest loan from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation.
