NFA Senior Heads to Tennis State Championships

Newburgh Free Academy Varsity boys’ tennis player Aarav Shah clinched third place in the OCIAA championships and will advance to the New York State championships.

Shah competed in the OCIAA championships at Match Point in Goshen on May 18 through May 20. There were 12 students competing for the boys’ singles championships. Shah captured third place, which qualified him to compete for the Section 9 title.

On May 24 and May 25, Shah competed in the Section 9 championships at Match Point. He defeated Middletown’s Kwaku Agyeman in the consolation round, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. He clinched third place in the tournament.

This win qualified him for the NYSHPSAA Boys Tennis Championships to be played at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on June 2, 2022.

The Varsity boys’ tennis team is coached by Arturo Santana.
