City of Newburgh Man Charged with Molesting Child

It seems to be a growing trend in Newburgh and the surround communities – molesting young children.

Add to the list of alleged child molesters Jairo Garcia, age 31 from the City of Newburgh. The Orange County Child Abuse Unit announced today that the New York State Police, working in conjunction with Orange County Child Protective Services, conducted a joint investigation into allegations that Garcia had engaged in a course of sexual conduct with a child less than 13 years old.

The investigation led to Garcia’s arrest yesterday. He was charged with Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the 2nd degree, a Class D felony, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor. Garcia was arraigned in the Town of Goshen Court before Judge Amanda Berry and remanded to Orange County Jail without bail. An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

Due to New York State laws advocating for the rights of people accused of heinous crimes such as molesting children, the suspect’s mugshot is prohibited from being released to the public.

In an unrelated case, police arrested Cormega Berkley, a 21 year-old City of Newburgh man, on April 4, 2022 and charged him with engaging in sexual contact with a child less than 11 years old. The Newburgh News reported on it here.

There are currently scores of registered sex offenders living in the City of Newburgh, Town of Newburgh, New Windsor, and other local areas.
