City of Newburgh Seeks Volunteers for Citizens Advisory Committee

The City of Newburgh is seeking volunteers to serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee. Residents interested in joining must apply by June 15, 2022.

The Citizens Advisory Committee’s sole purpose is to develop a pool of individuals interested and qualified to serve on the City of Newburgh’s next districting commission. They would be tasked with evaluating the existing wards and redistrict them as necessary so that they remain compact, contiguous, and in compliance with established standards of State and Federal law.

The members of the Citizens Advisory Committee will solicit interest through a variety of methods and shall review the applications submitted, verify that they meet the eligibility criteria stated in City Charter Section C1.21(C) and provide a listing of qualified applicants to the City Council.

The Citizens Advisory Committee is comprised of seven City residents: One resident from each of the four wards and three resident at-large. The Citizens Advisory Committee will meet as soon after appointment as practicable to establish the pool of eligible residents to serve on the districting commission. All members shall be appointed for terms of two years.

City of Newburgh residency is a requirement to join. Interested individuals may submit an application online here: https://cityofnewburgh.seamlessdocs.com/f/BoardApplication

Paper copies of the application are available in the office of the City Clerk at 83 Broadway, Newburgh, NY 12550. Applicants may submit a letter of intent in lieu of an application. The letter of intent must contain answers to the questions found in the application available online or in the office of the City Clerk.

All applications not completed and submitted online through the City’s website and all letters of intent must be returned via regular mail or by hand delivery to the City of Newburgh Executive Office, attn: City Manager, 83 Broadway, Newburgh, NY 12550 or via e-mail to Boards@cityofnewburgh-ny.gov
