Free Smoke Detectors to be Installed in City of Newburgh Households

The City of Newburgh, the Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, and community partners will be installing free smoke detectors for participating households in the City of Newburgh for the Sound the Alarm event on Saturday, May 14.

City of Newburgh residents can schedule an appointment for a free smoke alarm installation by calling (845) 249-4228 or by signing up online on the American Red Cross website.

During the Sound the Alarm event, Red Cross-trained volunteers will install up to three free smoke detectors to make homes safer, help families develop a personalized fire escape plan, and provide valuable fire safety tips and training for all members of each household.

Members of the City of Newburgh Fire Department, City of Newburgh Police Department, Newburgh Enlarged City School District, and the Newburgh Unity Armory Center are planning to make 120 homes safer by installing a total of 360 smoke alarms.

Those interested in volunteering can register at RedCross.org/STAeny to join this rewarding day of giving back. No prior experience is needed — training will be provided.
