Letizia Verlezza

September 18, 1931 – April 18, 2022 (age 90)

Letizia Verlezza, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (bisnonna) passed away peacefully on April 18, 2022. She was 90.

Letizia was born on September 18, 1931 in S. Maria a Vico, Caserta, Italy, the daughter of the late Carmine Calcagno and Carminella Ruotolo. She was married to her late husband, Carlo Verlezza whom she wed on May 28, 1950 in Santa Maria a Vico before migrating to the US. She is survived by her daughter Anna Verlezza Monaco, her son Sabatino Verlezza and his wife Barbara Verlezza, and her adored grandchildren, Carla Monaco Blondin and her husband Joseph Blondin, Allegra M. Verlezza, and Sabatino A. Verlezza and partner Robert Burke, and her cherished great-grandchildren, Lorenzo and Angelina Letizia. She leaves behind her siblings, Maria and Assunta Calcagno. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Francesco, Padre Vincenzo, Anna, Raffaele and Rofino, and son-in-law, Angelo Monaco. In addition, she leaves behind many dear cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that touched her along her journey. 

She worked in the garment industry and was in high demand for her workmanship. She was valued for her loyalty as a detailed finisher and was a true craftsman who corrected others’ mistakes.

Letizia was all heart and lived a full life. She was caring, honest, compassionate and an extremely generous human being. She had the most beautiful soul. She always went out of her way for others.

She was full of passion and energy, and treasured family the most. She loved cooking and baking and her favorite pastime was gardening. After losing her husband Carlo, she would spend hours and hours tending to her plants and vegetables and carrying on the masterpiece that they created together. She loved to interact with nature. The garden was her safe haven and her sanctuary.  

Visitation will be held from 10am – 1pm on Friday, May 6 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY. A funeral home service will follow at 1pm with burial at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor, NY.

Let’s stay safe together. Masks are required. Please no kissing and hugging.

Because Letizia was an avid gardener, and tis’ the season to grow, we ask that you plant and grow something of your choice in her honor to celebrate her life and memory.
