Fostertown Students Perform Weather Show

Students at the Newburgh Enlarged City School District’s Fostertown ETC Magnet School recently held a show entitled “The Weather Show”.

The drama was directed by Amy Kosturik. It was written by Joan Odale-LaPoint, who also provided musical direction. Both are teachers at the school.

The musical production, held by second grade students, gave the students the opportunity to actively practice components of the New York State Elementary Learning Standards for the Arts in Theatre.

The focus of the rehearsals was to present information in a meaningful way. The skills that were practiced included making eye contact with the audience; Speaking in a clear and strong voice with an attention to pronunciation, dictation, phrasing and vocal expression; and Exercise appropriate facial expressions and body language to give optimal understanding and meaning to what was presented. The goal was to have students well-practiced and prepared to ensure a feeling of confidence when speaking to an audience.
