A one-of-a-kind CSX locomotive commemorating our nation’s law enforcement made a brief stop in the City of Newburgh late yesterday afternoon. The engine was actively pulling a freight train, but it is used at special events along the nationwide railway system.
CSXT 3194, named the “Spirit of Law Enforcement”, is a commemorative locomotive which was unveiled by CSX Transportation in 2019 to honor our nation’s police officers who dedicate their lives to serve and protect communities across the railway network.
“CSX is proud of the employee craftsmanship involved in transforming this locomotive into a special commemorative engine,” said Ed Harris, Executive Vice President of Operations. “This is a moving tribute to the men and women who serve us every day and aligns with CSX’s goal to connect military service members, first responders, and their families to the resources and support they need.”
The “Spirit of Law Enforcement” is part of the “Pride in Service” locomotives launched by CSX Transportation in 2019. The only two other locomotives which are part of this fleet are the “Spirit of our First Responders” and the “Spirit of our Armed Forces.”
When the three similar locomotives are not actively moving customers’ freight, they are made available for special events along the CSX system. The company’s purpose in this is to extend their customers’ commitment to the communities where they operate.
