Sr. Mary Andre Murphy of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, New Windsor, entered into eternal life at Mount St. Joseph on April 8, 2022, at the age of 99.
Sr. Mary Andre was born in New York, NY on March 23, 1923. She entered the Sisters of the Presentation on January 23, 1944. She professed final vows on August 15, 1949. She graduated from Commerce High School in Yonkers, NY and earned a BA in Education from Manhattan College.
During her 63 years of ministry Sr. Mary Andre taught in various locations: St. Frances of Rome, Holy Rosary and Our Lady of Solace Schools, Bronx; St. Michael and St. Jude Schools, Manhattan; St. Mary’s School, Fishkill, St. Paul the Apostle School in Yonkers and Mt. St. Joseph Academy, New Windsor. Sister also taught in the Brooklyn Diocese at St. Rose of Lima School, Rockaway Beach and in the Paterson Diocese at St. Andrew School, Clifton, NJ. In addition to teaching, she also served as the librarian at Holy Rosary School and was the Maintenance Supervisor at Mount St. Joseph, New Windsor.
In addition to her family of the Sisters of the Presentation, Sr. Mary Andre is survived by her many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Sr. Mary Andre was predeceased by her parents, William J. and Catherine (Corbett) Murphy and her twin brother, William and her sister, Eleanor Holder.
Wake services will be held at Mount St. Joseph Chapel, 64 Presentation Way, New Windsor, NY on Monday, April 11, 2022 from 3:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount St. Joseph Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.
