National championship athletes from the Cornwall Central School District were honored in a parade today to celebrate their victories. The parade began at Cornwall Central High School and made its way to each school throughout the District.
Today was also declared “Dragon Green Day” as teachers and students wore their best Cornwall Dragons green attire.
Cornwall’s Track and Field team had seven student-athletes earn the title of All-American at the national championships in March.
The 4×200 team of Marc Sean Montero, Christian Sterling, Charles Cypress, and Jiles Addison earned 3rd place in the United States.
Karrie Baloga finished 5th in the nation in the 2-mile run (10:15) and sixth in the nation in the 1-mile run (4:43). Her 1-mile time set a new Section 9 record and is the 4th fastest time in New York State history. This past December, she also captured 4th place in the nation at the Cross Country National Championship.
The 4×400 team of Marc Sean Montero, Charles Cypress, Avo Sarkissian, and Victor Perez earned 5th in the nation.
To have seven students attain All-American status is truly a tremendous accomplishment, which speaks to these students’ hard work and talent. They did this under the leadership of Coach Creeden and Coach Feuer.
The National High School Coaches Association honors the nation’s finest student-athletes as High School Academic All-Americans. To qualify, nominees must carry at least a 3.6 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
