October 27, 1954 – March 11, 2022 (age 67)
Maria T. Velez was called home on Friday March 11. She was diagnosed with cancer in late May 2021. She endured chemotherapy, surgery, immunotherapy, and cancer pills. She lost her battle at White Plains Hospital.
Maria was born in Ponce Puerto Rico, daughter of Maria and Tomas Velez.
Maria was a beloved member of the Morgan Stanley family. She loved her job and her coworkers. She was Morgan Stanley through and through. We are distraught at her loss but comforted knowing she was loved by her “work” family. The outpouring of love and concern has truly humbled us.
We are heartbroken but consoled knowing that our “Tere” (short for Teresa) is now with our mother, who preceded her almost exactly one year ago. She focused on preparing for the future, for retirement. Sadly, she did not live to enjoy the fruits of her labor.
She loved her family and cherished family together times. She is survived by her daughter Tina Douglas (husband Vernon Douglas), granddaughters Aalayjah and Neveah. Sisters Lydia Barros (husband Gregory Barros), Evelyn Canals (husband Johnny Canals). Brothers Tomas Velez (Wife Diane Velez), Rufino Velez.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins.
She is survived by numerous friends, coworkers, colleges’, supervisors, bosses and loved ones. Too many to name, in fear of leaving someone unnamed. She truly loved and respected you all. Thank you all for your love and support.
Special Thank You to Edward O’Connor.
Visitation will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY.
